After a busy couple of months for our contractors Y Stiwdio opens its doors for our first workshop on Saturday 10th December!
We are so excited to introduce you to our brand new Arts and Sustainability
hub and let you know about our first offer of courses and events over the next couple of months.
We have used sustainable materials for much of the building’s construction, including hempcrete and lime render for the walls and a round pole timber frame. Many of these structural processes were a collaboration between our experts and a wonderful, dedicated team of volunteers who generously donated their time to learn some new skills and help us complete Y Stiwdio.
The result is a stunning light and airy space that really has been built with our local community!
The garden space is being designed alongside another team of volunteers who want to make it a beautiful spot to enjoy nature in the centre of the village. Our groundworks are due to be completed soon so look out for big changes afoot in the outside space as well.
We have a busy programme of events already lined up for December and January with plenty more to add in the new year. With generous funding from Thrive we have been able to price our events on a sliding scale to allow for maximum participation from our local community.
We kick off December festivities with a wreath making workshop with local flower growers Blossoms and Berries. We will be using the willow and foliage grown on their land at the base of the Preseli's to create a stunning Christmas wreath.
Following this we have a variety of taster sessions in printmaking for adults, families and home educators which we hope will become regular weekly sessions.
In January we have a ‘Basket in a Day’ willow weaving workshop on offer with the brilliant Cassandra Lishman. We will also be launching our ‘Cylch Gwnïo Cymraeg’ a Welsh sewing circle giving you a weekly chance for Welsh practice whilst working with textiles lead by talented professional tailor Catherine Davies. All levels of spoken Welsh are warmly welcomed and there will be plenty of te, coffi a chacen to go around!
For those of you more interested in the sustainability side of our build, in March we have a full weekend wind power workshop where the experts from V3 power will teach you how to make a small wind turbine for domestic use. Tickets coming in the new year!
Alongside all of this will be an exhibition programme featuring local artists, opportunities to get involved through volunteering as a workshop assistant or as part of our ‘Clwb Ardd’ gardening team.
We cannot wait to welcome you to our beautiful space.
