· Y STIWDIO ·
Y Stiwdio is a creative space where wellies are welcome -
a place to make, learn and grow!
Y Stiwdio is a unique project from the other CARE projects, in the sense that it's the only one that has its very own building. And we are so proud of it! Back in 2019, CARE was awarded Welsh Government, EU and Lottery funding to develop Garej y Sgwar - an old industrial plot in Hermon, to create a peaceful, publicly accessible space for creative projects.
Now, in the place of the old garage, is a beautiful eco build, created from recycled and natural materials. Y Stiwdio incorporates low-cost energy-saving and generation technology into the design.
As well as it's own building, Y Stiwdio has it's own website too!
IN PERSON TALK AT Y STIWDIO
WEDNESDAY 30TH APRIL · 6:45 ~ 8:30 pm
Sustainable Botanical Dyeing
- A talk with Siân Lester

Join local artist Siân Lester for a talk about the sustainable and biophilic approaches to her season-based botanical dyeing, textile art and research. On a global and local level, her visual and socially engaged arts practice focuses on ecology and themes around acts of care, the environment, and the interconnectedness of all things. Siân will share insights into her work, which reflect deeply tactile, strangely entangled, yet fragile perspectives, rooted within the slower rhythms and cycles of the spaces that surround her.

We are not charging for this talk. There will be a donation bucket on the door. No need to book, just show up.
EXHIBITION AT Y STIWDIO
MONDAY 24TH MARCH - SUNDAY 7TH APRIL
Faces of Rebellion: Action for a better world

There’s a long and proud history of activists who have worked for a better world by rebelling against the status quo when change was needed. The suffragettes and civil rights protesters often spring to mind, but many others have also changed our world for the better over the centuries.
The exhibition is part of an international art activism project. Currently, there are five artists involved, and two have published work so far. This exhibition will include work by both of them, namely Bitterjug and Solutionairy. Bitterjug is the name used by Mark Skipper, who originated the project.

Pop in: 24/3 - 6/5

· THE BUILDING ·
The design process of the building incorporated the consolation from the immediate community. The stunning frame was created by Ty Pren, a local roundwood construction company. If the only reason that you pop in for a visit is to see the building, then it will be well worth the visit!
The space offers a variety of weekly and sporadic workshops. Thanks to grant funding we are able to keep the cost of these workshops down.
If you are keen to hire the space and run your own workshop, then we can help you with the promotion of it! Get in touch directly with Emma for more details.

· THE COMMUNITY GARDEN ·

The garden was designed by the local community in collaboration with Feeding Our Community - a sister project under the CARE umbrella.
The community garden has proven a real success, with the care of local volunteers there is now an edible garden boasting fruits, salads and veggies from the raised and ground beds. Tucked in amongst the thriving plants is a small pond, adding to the overall biodiversity.
Pop by to buy some Mountain Hall eggs, laid just up the street!
· EXHIBITION ·
The space lends itself well to exhibitions! Since opening in December 2022, Y Stiwdio has hosted the celebration exhibition of Growing Better Connections. and photography by Amanda Jackson and Tez Marston.
If you are a local artist and would like to use the space to exhibit, then get in touch with Emma.
